Being raised in Hawaii, Kalaʻi has a deep connection with the ocean and has always felt calm on and under the water. Whether he’s out fishing, surfing, free-diving, paddling, hiking, or staring at his fish tanks, he always has a big smile on his face. His skill include pū blowing, underwater talking, cutting ropes, and eating large sized lunch plates. Kalaʻi is from the eastside of Oahu and graduated from Kalaheo High school.  He then went to uni in Dillon Montana graduating with a degree in Environmental Science. Right out of collage Kala’i joined PMDP in 2022. During his first deployment Kala’i founded the rope slayer (bread knife) which has proven to be a game changer in the world or marine debris cutting in and out of the water. Kala’i is deeply grateful to pursue his passion alongside a stellar team. His profound delight in the removal of marine debris is so intense that it completely engulfs him in euphoria allowing him to work at maximum efficiency!
